Many commissions and committees are formed by the government to look into current social issues. Some of these commissions have made a substantial contribution to our lives and other have been made simply to investigate or study the case. The tradition of pursuing law reform through the medium of a Law Commission was started by the British and continued in post-independent India. Seventeen law commissions have been established since the first law commission established in 1955.
